Operation Cast Lead: Boy killed while asleep, his house demolished over him

On the first day of the Israeli ground offensive, on 3 January 2009, the 'Elaian family received a telephone call from the Israeli army ordering them to leave their house because it would be bombed. The family left the next morning and went to live with the children’s grandparents.

Four days later, the eldest son, Mohammad (15), went back home to spend some time alone and bring back family effects. His father gave him permission to spend the night there. While he was sleeping, the Israeli army demolished the house, and Mohammad was crushed to death. His body was recovered a day and a half later.

The 'Elaian now live in a rented house. The family is traumatized by the death of Mohammad and three of his siblings started wetting their beds.
