These figures are collected by DCI/PS filed workers. Please check this page often for updates, particularly on child injuries, as the situation on the ground in Gaza creates challenges for the data collection process. Thus, it difficult for DCI to confirm deaths and injuries as well as provide additional background information on these children the same day that events occur.

Names of Children Killed on 26 September 2006:

Name Dam Al 'Aiz Hammad
Age 14
Location Rafah
Cause Shelling
Additional Information On 26 September 2006, at around 22:30, Mr. Sami Al Sha'ir received a phone call from the Israeli army informing him that there was a tunnel under his house (which is situated to the west of the Jama'in club in the Ishta' area of the Brazil neighbourhood of Rafah) and that the house would be bombed imminently. Between 22:30 and 23:00 an Israeli F16 fired 2 missiles directly at the house. Shrapnel and debris flew in all directions across the neighbourhood. A large section of wall flew around 900m away from the shelled building and landed directly in the house of 14 year old Dam Al Al 'Aiz Hammad, who was sleeping in her bed. She was hit directly and died immediately.

15 other people were injured as a result of this shelling incident, including 3 children: Mohamad Abu Jazar, 13 years old; Shuq Abu Ta'amia 3 years old; and Khitam Zannoun 12 years old. All three received multiple shrapnel wounds.
